2009 Prayer Letter
October
is here, and it is that time of year when we ask for help with the children’s
Christmas dinner and clothing. Each
year we purchase a large pig for Christmas dinner and all the treats that go
with it. In Burma, fish head soup
is a holiday specialty. In
Cambodia, crawfish soup is on their menu, while in India chicken soup is served.
Although prices have increased some this year, we would still like to
raise enough to buy two pairs of shoes, two skirts and two blouses for each
child. In Cambodia, the boys wear
pants.
Our
ministry in Burma is going through a very difficult time.
There is an attitude of resentment toward the orphanages there.
We knew when we began, we were on borrowed time.
Now it appears our time is running out.
The next few months will prove difficult as Burma’s national election
is due to take place. There is an
erroneous assumption that Christians are going to disrupt the election process.
Because of this, established Christian ministries are anticipating a
government led purging. The truth
is that we have experienced much progress under the present government.
Their astrologers, who have great influence on the government, have
predicted that the Christian church will be in direct conflict with the military
government. Our philosophy has
always been to obey the laws of the country we are a guest of and do as the
Bible says, “render unto Caesar”.
Please pray we will be able to continue to operate as we have through the
years.
Well
folks, Christmas is coming - whether we are ready or not!
In Asia this is a very special time of year for all the people.
The birth of Christ is observed by the Christians while the Buddhists
celebrate the Christmas holidays.
Last
year with your help we were able to provide funds to purchase 462 holiday meals
and gifts of clothing for each of the orphans.
This year the number of orphans in our care has increased to 515 and the
number of orphanages has increased to twelve. We have two new orphanages in
Cambodia and Lord willing soon one in Managua, Nicaragua.
Each year we have been able to purchase shoes and a skirt or pants for
each child. Although prices have
increased up to 10% in Asia as they have here in the United States, we trust
that God will once again supply for the needs.
Our new orphanages have of course added to this expense.
I
am listing the total breakdown for the holiday needs this year and ask that you
join us in praying for the Lord to supply.
Pork
and rice dinner with vegetables & rice averages $4.00 per
child………….…...….$2060.00
Four
pairs of shoes that will last one year - $6.50 per child…@ $1.70 per
pair……..…$3,347.50
One
pair of pants or skirt with shirt or blouse…$7.00 per child
…….………….….…..$3,862.50
TOTAL………….……
$9,270.00
Again
this year, I am confident the thrift shop will be able to raise the money for
the shoes which will leave a balance needed of $5,922.50.
Any help that you could give for this holiday gift would be very much
appreciated. Our deadline for sending the money over in time is December 8th.
This is a tremendous amount of money, but we serve an AWESOME GOD! No
gift is too small, and together we can do this. My last sermon to the children
in Asia was taken from Philippians 4:19, “GOD
SHALL SUPPLY.”
Thank
you for your prayers and your help with this most rewarding, life-changing
program.
